Betty and I were still living in Brazil when the last recession hit. I was nervous, not because the U.S. housing market was collapsing, but because my sons were so very distant from us and perhaps feeling the pinch.
Having lived through 11 recessions (including the one that was in progress when I was born), I decided to write a letter to my sons, sharing some old chestnuts and geezer wisdom. With tongue-in-cheek, I titled the letter “Pa Best’s 10-Point Guide to Hard Times Living.”
Now, with the coronavirus breathing down our neck and the world in a frenzy, I thought it might be a good time to dust off the old letter and post it.
So here, to edify and encourage you, are some tips that I penned during the last apocalypse.
BONUS THOUGHT: It is the right of geezers everywhere to get up on their soap boxes and pontificate. It is the right of young people to ignore them.
