Welcome to the “cancel culture,” wherein thousands of people are “cancelling” their friends and relatives for the egregious sin of disagreeing with them. In some cases, it means a complete and utter end to relationship.

Why would we do such a thing?

The answer seems obvious: Out of self-righteousness and silly human pride we do it, and a complete failure to empathize.

Imagine for a moment if God were to treat us that way.

But God’s ways are higher than ours. He has made a decision to listen to us (even when we make no sense), to love us (despite our unloveliness), to extend us grace (though we fail to extend it to others), and to forgive us in Christ (though we are often unforgiving).

In these troubled days, more than ever, we need to acknowledge these heavenly gifts and generously pay them forward.
